Baptism

For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. ~ John 3:16

Our sinfulness, God’s grace

For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— not by works, so that no one can boast. ~ Ephesians 2:8-9

Baptism is a “good news” promise from God. The person being baptized brings nothing to God, but is a recipient of God’s grace. So when God loves us and favors us, despite our being unworthy, the Bible has a special term for that love and favor: “grace.”

God chooses us

You did not choose me, but I chose you. ~John 15:16a

Becoming a child of God is not a decision that any human can make. God chooses us. Jesus said on the night before he died on the cross: “You did not choose me, but I chose you.”

Faith and forgiveness for all ages, everywhere

and how from infancy you have known the holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation ~ 2 Timothy 3:15

The Bible teaches that babies can believe.

Peter replied, “Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.
~ Acts 2:38,39

Through baptism God promises the forgiveness of sins, and this is something infants need as much as adults. Christ has commanded us to baptize “all nations” and that includes infants.

“Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,” ~ Matthew 28:19

You are never too old to be baptized!

But when they believed Philip as he proclaimed the good news of the kingdom of God and the name of Jesus Christ, they were baptized, both men and women. ~ Acts 8:12
