There before me was one like a son of man, coming with the clouds of heaven. He approached the Ancient of Days and was led into his presence. He was given authority, glory and sovereign power; all peoples, nations and men of every language worshiped him. His dominion is an everlasting dominion that will not pass away, and his kingdom is one that will never be destroyed. ~ Daniel 7:13,14

While Jesus lived his life on earth, there was nothing in his appearance that stood out and screamed “king material.” He looked like us. He called himself “the Son of man” (John 3:13). People were so disappointed in him that many turned against him crying, “Crucify him! Crucify him!”
Reading in the Bible we learn that Jesus:
- Is the one who even the winds and the waves obey is the one who hung on the cross for sinners and cried, “Father, forgive them” (Luke 23:34).
- He is the one who comforted the thief on the cross and promised, “Today you will be with me in paradise” (Luke 23:43).
- As he died, he is the one who moved a Roman officer to exclaim, “Surely he was the Son of God!” (Matthew 27:54).
- And when all seemed chaotic and unsure to his closest disciples after his death, he is the one who removed all their doubts and said to them in person after his resurrection, “Peace be with you” (Luke 24:36).
Jesus, son of man and Son of God, was given authority, glory and sovereign power when he ascended into Heaven. He is now at the right hand of God the Father.
This is the same Jesus who rules the believer’s heart with his grace and Spirit. This is the same one who sustains our faith with his forgiving love in Word and sacrament.
Jesus promises to come back for you. He is the one you will see on the clouds of heaven, the one for whose name every knee will bow and every tongue confess, the one who lives and reigns with the Father and the Holy Spirit, one God, forever and ever.
Who is ruling? He is the Jesus Christ the Lord!
Come Lord Jesus. Amen
