Now we know that if the earthly tent we live in is destroyed, we have a building from God, an eternal house in heaven, not built by human hands. ~ 2 Corinthians 5:1
Human beings have constructed some amazing things over the course of time: the Great Pyramids in Egypt, the Coliseum in Rome, the Parthenon in Greece. Amazing structures!
And they’re all in ruins to one degree or another.
Finally, it doesn’t matter if it’s a grand palace or a simple home, though maintenance work is done, they still break down and eventually they go to ruins.
And so it goes with our human body—this “tent” in which we live. The body needs constant care, and yet it breaks down and will eventually go to ruins.
But you have an eternal house! You have heaven to anticipate, and there you will receive a glorious body which will never break down, which will never go to ruins!
You have that “eternal house” because Jesus, your God, became your brother. He took for himself one of these “tents,” that is, one of these earthly bodies. He allowed his earthly body to be ruined by his suffering and death on a cross. For what reason? So that you could have an eternal house in heaven built by God, a house which will never break down, never go to ruins.
Prayer: As my body breaks down, O Savior, remind me that I will have a glorious body when you take me to my eternal home. Focus me, O Savior, on that wonderful truth. In your name I pray it. Amen.
